Scope*1.1 This specification2covers molybdenum-alloy steelplates, intended particularly for welded boilers and otherpressure vessels.1.2 Plates under this specification are available in threegrades having different strength levels as followsGrade Tensile Strength, ksi [MPa]A 65–85 [450–585]B 70–90 [485–620]C 75–95 [515–655]1.3 The maximum thickness of plates is limited only by thecapacity of the composition to meet the specified mechanicalproperty requirements; however, current practice normallylimits the maximum thickness of plates furnished under thisspecification as followsGrade Maximum Thickness, in. [mm]A 6 [150]B 6 [150]C 4 [100]1.4 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in eachsystem are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system mustbe used independently of the other. Combining values from thetwo systems may result in nonconformance with this specifi-cation.2. General Requirements and Ordering Information3.1 Material supplied to this material specification shallconform to Specification A20/A20M. These requirements out-line the testing and retesting methods and procedures, permit-ted variations in dimensions, and mass, quality and repair ofdefects, marking, loading, and ordering information.3.2 In addition to the basic requirements of this specifica-tion, certain supplementary requirements are available whenadditional control, testing, or examination is required to meetend use requirements. The purchaser is referred to the listedsupplementary requirements in this specification and to thedetailed requirements in Specification A20/A20M.3.3 Coils are excluded from qualification to this specifica-tion until they are processed into finished plates. Platesproduced from coil means plates that have been cut toindividual lengths from coil. The processor directly controls, oris responsible for, the operations involved in the processing ofcoils into finished plates. Such operations include decoiling,leveling, cutting to length, testing, inspection, conditioning,heat treatment if applicable, packaging, marking, loading forshipment, and certification.NOTE 1For plates produced from coil and furnished without heattreatment or with stress relieving only, three test results are reported foreach qualifying coil. Additional requirements regarding plates from coilare described in Specification A20/A20M.3.4 If the requirements of this specification are in conflictwith the requirements of Specification A20/A20M, the require-ments of this specification shall prevail.4.
